Heated Auxiliary Drain Cabinets

AGF’s heated auxiliary drains come in three variations for a range of applications: Model 5400 heated auxiliary drain, Model 5450 self-maintaining auxiliary drain, and Model 5500 automatic auxiliary drain.

 

Model 5400 Heated Auxiliary Drain

Features:

      • Auxiliary drain inside a heated & lockable cabinet
      • Integrated NFPA-required signage
      • Energy-efficient heater — operates only when needed to keep drain above freezing

Draining:

When the drain fills to approximately 85% of its capacity, a float switch triggers both an audible and visual alert. The cabinet can also send an alert to a fire control panel or building management system.

To drain accumulated condensate:

      1. Close the top valve to maintain system integrity
      2. Remove the 1″ pipe cap from the drainpipe at the bottom of the cabinet
      3. Open the lower valve to drain the accumulated water
      4. Once water finishes draining, close the lower valve
      5. Open the top valve to allow the drain to collect condensate again

Model 5450 Self-Maintaining Auxiliary Drain

Features:

      • Auxiliary drain inside a heated & lockable cabinet
      • Integrated NFPA-required signage
      • Energy-efficient heater — operates only when needed to keep drain above freezing
      • Mechanical self-maintaining

Self-Maintaining Feature:

In addition to the primary auxiliary drain, the 5450 includes an ancillary drain trap. When the primary drain collects 80% of its volume, any excess accumulation redirects into the drain trap. From there, it seeps out of the secondary drainpipe at the bottom of the cabinet.

This unit will always have some volume of water in it. But, the heater protects the auxiliary drain from freezing. The drain trap maintains system air pressure while excess water drips out through the secondary drain line.

Manual quarter-turn ball valves at the inlet and outlet of the primary auxiliary drain ensure the drain can still be fully emptied in the event of the dry valve activation. The secondary drain trap provides confidence that under normal conditions any excess accumulation is seeping out of the system rather than backing up the pipe at the risk of freezing.

Model 5500 Automatic Auxiliary Drain

Features:

      • Energy-efficient heater — operates only when needed to keep drain above freezing
      • Automatic draining

Automatic Draining Feature:

Motorized ball valves at the inlet and outlet of the auxiliary drain and a programmable logic controller provide semi or fully automatic draining.

For Semi-Automatic Draining – The float switch sends a notification that the drain is full. Start the emptying procedure by pushing a button on the unit or via a fire control panel or building management system.

Fully Automic Draining – The float switch triggers the draining process when necessary.

Automatic Draining Process:

      1. The top valve closes itself to maintain system integrity
      2. The bottom valve opens to drain accumulated water
      3. When draining is complete, the bottom valve closes.
      4. The top valve opens slowly to allow for more accumulation
      5. In large campuses and other types of facilities, Model 5500 allows for regularly scheduled remote draining or complete automation.
